Social entrepreneurship for women is one of the hot areas that is gaining rapid pace in India. Irrespective of whether the women are from the city or suburbs or rural areas, there has been many institutions and organizations that are working towards this great social cause.

Shyam Sekar S, was nominated by CII-BYST (Bharatiya Yuva Shakthi Trust) to represent them and address the women entrepreneurs. Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD) located at Sriperumpudur organized this event titled, ‘ Women social entrepreneurship development programme. This event was jointly organized by British Council, and held at RGNIYD between 19-21 May, 2015. The program was targeted towards young women interested in entrepreneurship, fresh entrepreneurs at micro level, special help groups leaders and members.

The event has a great attendance with many participating not just from the nearby areas but from distant locations, district, etc. Shyam presented two sessions, back to back, covering the basics of social entrepreneurship, and also what are all the factors and characteristics needed to succeed in social entrepreneurship. Post the event Shyam mentioned, “this gives a great personal satisfaction to be part of this women social entrepreneurship drive, that can help build a nation better. Glad to be part of this event and thanks for this opportunity presented by BYST, as I am able to contribute a drop on the ocean by sharing my ideas, thoughts and insights. Many did appreciate after my session as it kind of acted as a spark for them to do well, pursue this initiative for the welfare of themselves and also the society as a whole”.
